On Monday 19th May, 30 dancers arrived at Sadler's Wells for the first ever EVOLVE Workshop, presented by Dancers' Career Development.
Facilitated by DCD beneficiary, certified Life Coach and The Clore Leadership Programme Dance Fellow Isabel Mortimer, EVOLVE gave dancers the chance to hear inspiring Transition Tales from former Rambert and Phoenix Dance Theatre dancer-turned-choreographer, Melanie Teall, alongside George Long, Musical Theatre star-turned-garden designer.

Melanie is a former professional dancer with Rambert and Phoenix Dance Company and recipient of Cosmopolitan C&A Dance Awards and the Paul Clarke Award. Melanie has choreographed for Transitions Dance Company and Sacpino Dance Company amongst others and has two works included in the Rambert Dance Company Repertoire. Melanie is one of 15 invited artists participating in the Sadler's Wells Summer University and is a DCD beneficiary.
George was a Musical Theatre and commercial dancer for 22 years, appearing in Sister Act, The Rat Pack Live from LA, Fame, and many more, before retraining as a Garden Designer and founding his own business, Wellgrounded Gardens. You can read more about George here.
The dancers were led through a range of activities which allowed them space and time to reflect on their achievements, where they are now, and helped to empower them to take the next steps on their career journey.
We were delighted to give DCD beneficiaries the opportunity to utilise their skills in their new careers, as Seeta Patel and Nick Lashbrook captured EVOLVE on film, while Stephen Berkeley White photographed the event.
The next EVOLVE Workshop is to be hosted in partnership with Northern Ballet at the home of DCD Contributing Companies Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre in Quarry Hill, Leeds, on Monday 29th September.
