Dancers' Career Development presents EMERGE, a unique shadowing and career development opportunity for professional dancers. The brand new programme, part of the EVOLVE series, offers the opportunity for professional dancers to explore another field and gain practical experience and networks in that area.

DCD beneficiaries Nick Lashbrook and Seeta Patel created our video trailer at EVOLVE London #1 in May 2014. See it here.
The first EMERGERS shadowed some of the professionals working on the EVOLVE Workshop, in partnership with DCD Contributing Company Northern Ballet, which took place in Leeds on Monday 29th September 2014. Read more about EVOLVE Leeds here.
First Artist of the Royal Ballet, Tara Bhavnani, shadowed DCD's Grants and Careers Officer, and EVOLVE Project Lead, Ellen Chambers, to learn about Events Management.

"I'm grateful to have been given the opportunity to participate in the Emerge program. I'm still dancing full time and it's difficult to imagine a career after ballet, so I'm looking forward to gaining what is a rare and valuable insight into a potential new career path." Tara Bhavnani
DCD retrained dancer and professional photographer Tim Cross was shadowed by independent dance artist, Katharine Markee. Katharine has worked as a choreographer, director, performer and teacher since graduating in 1992 from The Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
"Thank you again to the DCD for their generous and sensitive support, in another of its diverse guises. EMERGE represents a golden and timely opportunity for me to to gain invaluable experience. Very exciting!" Katharine Markee

EMERGE offers the opportunity for professional dancers to:
- Gain practical experience with a professional currently working in their career field of interest
- To work alongside a professional leading up to, during and following an EVOLVE Workshop
- Have specific questions answered by a dancer who has successfully transitioned
- To build a network of contacts in their field.
- Reflect on your own career development.

DCD beneficiary and filmmaker Robert Gravenor, EMERGE host. Robert danced with The Royal Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet. He has interviewed celebrities such as Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi & comedienne Ruby Wax for independent film.
